Last week I heard someone call into question that perhaps the new 10% Tan Tax, which went into effect last month, was racist. After all, practically everyone who uses a tanning bed is white. Well, you can take that further as most who use tanning beds are also women. So maybe we should just refer to this new tax as the White Woman Tax?
If you Google the subject, you’ll likely find a decent article by the Washington Post about this, then most of what follows seems to be a regurgitation of that article where they point out:
“There is no constitutional problem at all, because a plaintiff would have to show that the government intended to disadvantage a particular group, not simply that the group is disadvantaged in effect,” he said.
But does the argument have any merit? Not remotely said Randall Kennedy, a professor at Harvard Law School specializing in racial conflict and law.
For the leftist, liberal, socialist, progressive, democrats (all the same with different labels) they seem to hang on this point as though we could never prove it in a court of law. They remind me of a smug villain in a movie where everyone knows he’s guilty but he just looks at the camera and says, “Prove it.”
If I were to be on the side of the prosecution with no hard evidence this was intentionally implemented to tax white people, I would then be left to mount a strong case of circumstantial evidence. I might start with the following:
Income Tax – According to IRS data, the top 50% of wage earners pay approximately 96% of income taxes. Keep this in mind, along with Wikipedia’s compilation of 2005 data from the Census Bureau regarding top wage earners:
The racial breakdowns of income brackets further illustrate the racial disparities associated with affluence. In 2005, 81.8% of all 114 million households were White (including White Hispanics), 12.2% were African American, 10.9% were Hispanic and 3.7% were Asian American.
What would you like to bet we could find similar disparities in many taxes? Take this and combine it with statements from our government where many of the leftist, liberal, socialist, progressive, democrats have made statements regarding “reparations” and the “redistribution of wealth” and how much else would you need to prove their intent?
