I’ve heard rumors over the past couple of months he was quickly declining and I found myself incredibly sad today at the news of his passing. My first real introduction to political strategy and players came from Rod Shealy. I learned a lot of valuable information from him although I haven’t spoken to him in a number of years. We occasionally met in his office in Irmo, but more often than not, he would prefer to meet at Lizard’s Thicket restaurant.
No doubt there will be numerous stories and many tall tales about the political legend, so in other words, not much will change from when he was alive. Politics is a place where people can get credit for things they never really accomplished, while at the same time they get blamed for things they never actually had anything to do with. Where did the spinning end and real man begin? Most will never really know as the waters are so muddied by those with agendas.
Here’s more you can read about Rod Shealy if you want:
An excerpt from his last blog posts:
“With cancer, no one knows exactly what works, or exactly how or why it works, or exactly which patients will respond to which treatments. Those answers are determined by a Higher Power.
Which gets me back to the prayer lists.
It’s the only thing I know of that DOES work 100% of the time, although not always in the way we want it to. But, regardless, it always works.
And to anyone who may be facing the challenges of cancer, as I am, I ask that you let me know about it, so I can add you to MY prayer list.
Because, believe me, I’m talking to Jesus many, many times every day.”
Rod enjoyed the game and he was good at it. I strongly disagreed with him playing for both teams, but no matter how you felt about him, he was good at what he did. I hope most of what people write will be kept positive and that we all respectfully mourn the passing of a well accomplished political figure.
And, keep his family in your prayers…
