Blessed Is the One

Based on Psalm 1

One of the easier to understand Psalms, in my humble opinion. Its language remains clear and relevant as it is written. When I started this project, I was looking for Psalms that were the least represented in modern music. I had to research context for all but this one, so I found it surprising that we couldn’t find any recent songs that used this Psalm as inspiration.

Verse 1
Blessed is the one who don’t sway with the world,
Steppin’ clear of the chaos, where lies are unfurled.
They don’t vibe with the mockers who scorn Jesus’ name,
But they shine in His love, never chasin’ the fame.

Rooted deep in the Lord, where the blessings grow!
Fruit in season, leaves won’t fade away,
Blessed is the one who walks God’s way!

Verse 2
Day and night, they’re singin’ His mercy and grace,
Heart fixed on His goodness, they seek His face.
Not tossed by the culture, not bent by the storm,
In the Lord’s holy light, their soul is transformed.

But the world chases shadows, and bows to the breeze,
Twistin’ every which way, never findin’ true peace.
They won’t stand when the judgment comes callin’ their name,
In the righteous assembly, they’ll have no claim.

The Lord’s got His eyes on the ones who stay true,

Only Jesus brings life—He’s the way to our home!

Psalm 1

¹ Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
² but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
³ That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

⁴ Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
⁵ Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

⁶ For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
