The Truth Will Set You Free

For most of my life, spanning seven decades, I have felt that a spiritual battle was taking place. At first, it was a rare feeling, then it became occasional, and eventually it developed into a sense of impending tension. What I could not have realized at the beginning of my life is that the intensity would gradually increase – you just don’t see those things coming. You often have to plot all points on a board to recognize a pattern.

Feeling the Spiritual War

Even though I didn’t see it, I felt as if I knew it was coming. I’ve spent my life trying to warn people about where our country was headed if we didn’t recognize the dangers in front of us every day. Eventually, everything I had warned about was at our doorstep, and most people still believe it happened quickly, when in truth it did not. We have been on this path of our own making for at least a century, maybe longer.

COVID and the Awakening

When COVID hit, most of the world was still unaware. From the moment it started, I began warning about where things were headed, but no one wanted to listen. People emailed, messaged, and even called me to say I was wrong and “irresponsible with my words.” I’m not here to argue about that now. What’s done is done. In hindsight, most people see the truth now about what I was trying to warn them of then.

Where I discussed the dangers we faced, I never mentioned the spiritual war I believed we were in. I didn’t know how to explain these things, and I felt that if I even tried, people would think I was crazy. I mean, I was already trying to make people see truths that were right in front of them, and they were blinded – if I couldn’t get them to see such a simple truth right before their eyes, how was I ever going to convince anyone of anything spiritual?

To my surprise, since the lockdown, more people are recognizing that we are in a spiritual war. At first, it was rare for me to hear anyone mention a spiritual war, but now it happens more often. This time, I can see where this is headed, and it won’t be long before people wake up collectively to this reality.

Oh boy… There is so much I could write about this spiritual war. There’s so much more I want people to understand, but the truth is, people don’t usually wake up from a slumber and suddenly jump to their feet. Waking up is often a slow mental process. I will write more about this if anyone is interested, but for now, I want to highlight what I believe is the most fundamental weapon used in this spiritual war.

The Power of Truth

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” – James 1:26

The enemy will do everything possible to obscure the truth in people’s minds. The more confused people are, the easier they are to manipulate.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12

There are always major efforts to minimize God’s people, and minds are torn down through incremental efforts to confuse and make them question what is real and what is not. All the little lies are akin to death by a thousand cuts, as they mentally weaken people to make them susceptible to Satan.

These small lies also create division among us, and the more we are divided, the easier it becomes for the enemy to infiltrate and destroy us. For example, if an entity is making a positive impact, many will witness the efforts firsthand. The enemy will spread false information about that entity, disguising it as legitimate and truthful, to weaken the source of good. Those who lack firsthand knowledge of the entity often see fake information and believe it to be true. As a result, good people split over an issue because half of them believe a lie, while the other half recognize a lie when they see it.

I place “Good People” in the blocks in the diagram, and this represents Christians as well as those with the potential to become Christians. Lies are the primary tool Satan uses to divide us. It is the oldest and most effective tool he has. I also believe Satan goes after women with more effort because for every woman he has, more men will follow. Just as he tempted Eve in the Garden, who in turn helped to separate Adam from God.

“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” ~ Proverbs 12:22

Yes, because lying divides God’s people and can turn away outsiders. Once people see you as spreading false information, they won’t trust you with anything else. If non-believers see you lie, then why should they believe you when you share the wonders of God? Lies might not directly kill people in most cases, but when you add up all the lies that cause a non-believer to walk away, those lies have done something far worse than killing a person; they’ve contributed to condemning a soul for eternity. Can you even imagine the legions of souls Satan has claimed, stemming from the first lie he told in the Garden of Eden?

When information is shared and re-shared countless times, the damage becomes exponential. Those who make up such filth are evil, but how is the act of sharing and furthering lies not just as bad? If a person tells one lie, but you spread the lie ten times, who is the worse person? Who did the most damage?

I found this on another website, and it embodied another thought I was attempting to convey:

“Understanding the nature of truth is foundational to our faith. In our journey as believers, we discover that truth is not merely a concept but a vital aspect of who God is. The Bible tells us that God is the embodiment of truth; He cannot lie or break His promises. As we dig deeper into the scriptures, we learn that recognizing God’s truth helps us to align our lives with His will. Seeking the truth is a journey we all embark on together; it leads to deeper connection with God and one another. Moreover, it equips us to face the challenges of life with confidence and reliance on God’s unfailing nature.”

The Bible has a great deal to say about truth, but here are a few scriptures (of many), each followed by a brief commentary from me.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” ~ John 14:6

If Jesus is the truth, it leaves little to my imagination who a lie would be representative of. Think about who you represent!

“A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free.”  ~ Proverbs 19:5

How can “pours out lies” not apply to those who spread as much as those who create?

“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.” ~ Colossians 3:9

This is telling you that you should have let go of your old self when you became a Christian. You now have a responsibility not to lie to each other.

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ John 8:32

One of the most quoted scriptures, yet it remains largely ignored. Many believe this phrase was used at the time to signify freedom from Roman rule, but that’s not what He was saying – AND FYI – it’s impossible to be free from the bondage of sin when you’re openly sharing that same bondage with others.

The weapons Satan uses to distort the truth have grown more powerful over time. It all began with just a few spoken words in the Garden, delivered by a single person. As written languages developed, the ability to share God’s Word and spread lies increased. Then came the printing press, enabling both sides to disseminate their messages more passionately, followed by radio, television, and the internet. It seems that each new method of sharing information results in more evil being spread than truth. If that first lie was a weapon similar to a BB gun, moving to Artificial Intelligence (AI) is like detonating a nuclear bomb.

COVID lockdowns and the miserable four years that followed, I believe, were meant to serve as a great awakening. It was all intentionally designed to create a clear distinction between good and evil. I think I will write my next piece about that and present some facts I believe most people will find convincing. For now, I believe we are still in that “awakening” stage. The wheat is still being separated from the chaff.

“He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.” ~ Matthew 3:12

This awakening will go on, but the first phase of it was also a foreshadowing (my belief, which I will support in another piece later). This battle is never over, but we’re living in a critical time, and the truth is our most powerful weapon; we ignore it at our own peril.

It’s not yet too late to pick a side in this war.
